Place on Earth

A key benefit of the Place on Earth city projects for our partners is an international profile through a presence at major regional, national and
international events where the cities’ innovative schemes and best practice will be showcased.

Through Haring Woods Studio’s partnership with the UN, the participating cities best practice and the Place on Earth projects can be presented at events such as UNEP conferences and Governing Councils, sessions of the Committee for Sustainable Development, UN Habitat Governing Councils, and its World Urban Forums and World Urban Youth Assemblies. All project partners will be able to develop valuable media attention through this exposure and can benefit from the extensive international knowledge sharing process.

This opportunity begins with the World Urban Youth Annual Assembly and World Urban Forum, the world’s premier annual conferences on cities,
in Rio de Janerio, Brazil in March 2010. Place on Earth can then propel the growing global voice of youth to COP16 in Mexico City and onto the
World Urban Summit in 2012, Rio de Janerio, Brazil.

Place on Earth projects will be showcased on the website which will promote key activities to help our participants connect with related programmes and outcomes. This global exchange of Place on Earth artworks, ideas, research, experience and skills will help to promote knowledge sharing among the Place on Earth commissioning cities and local teams through to international communities.

Our project outcomes will help to inform individuals, communities and the full range of professionals around the world, working towards a sustainable future.  Two examples among many of international knowledge sharing opportunities that can be facilitated through our partnership with UN Habitat, are the UNEP research stations around
the world with daily monitoring of the global environment accessible through the UN GRID (Global Resource Information Database system)
and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) consisting of more than 3500 to researchers and scientists from 190 countries
pioneering global climate research.

The positive impact of Place on Earth projects at a local level includes collaborating with our partners to develop exhibition, event and media opportunities where participants and projects can be featured. Community centres, city hall spaces, libraries, arts and entertainment
venues, corporate and public spaces are all potential sites for Place on Earth artworks and project displays to stimulate further discussion
and involvement within the immediate community.
