Place on Earth

Working with the UN has inspired us to think big, to consider and use the extraordinary resources available to us all.

UN Habitat, as the only UN agency mandated to work directly with cities provides a unique and high profile platform for Place on Earth participants to collaborate and communicate on some of the most complex and difficult issues affecting us all. We can give young people a route to the main stage to communicate directly with and influence decision makers. As our city partners will help us to position Place on Earth to address local agendas, our UN Habitat partners will help us to formulate questions on climate change, governance and urban development most relevant to UN programmes. By ‘translating’ this qualitative and quantitative data information for the UN audience we can deliver facts and figures
alongside emotional and intellectual responses at the highest level.

The UN has helped establish a professional ethic of statistical  independence and objectivity. They encourage access to such information, nationally and internationally particularly through high
profile publications.

The UN has a central role in enabling the global statistical community to achieve an exceptional degree of integration on which to build concensus. They have created an honest, open interchange between the primary producers and users of data which is reliable and trustworthy.
Statistics, appraisals, targets, indicators and solutions based on this data is a truly unique knowledge bank relevant to every country in the world.

Place on Earth will have a presence at major UN conferences relevant to climate, environment, development and governance issues, including
UNEP conferences and Governing Councils, sessions of the Committee for Sustainable Development, UN Habitat Governing Councils, its World Urban Forums and World Urban Youth Assemblies.

Participating cities around the world will be able to promote their achievements and join in supporting the growing global voice of young
people at the proposed World Summit on Sustainable Development in 2012 and beyond.
