Programme > Experience > Siphonophora | Using small reactive devices situated in Gunpowder Park's main lake, this project records live environmental data and streams it onto a worldwide platform. | | Siphonophora by Rob Davis and Usman Haque The Siphonophiora project uses small reactive devices situated in one of Gunpowder Parks lakes to record and observe environmental data. Borrowing its name from a class of marine invertebrates, Siphonophora is an interactive research project by Rob Davis and Usman Haque. The small reactive devices will track light, temperature, pH levels and other pond life activity, feeding this information live onto pachcube.com, a website which collects environmental data worldwide and which will compare this information with other natrual sites all over the world. The small collection of devices will also send information via infra red to small devices installed in a large bird hide that over looks the lake, such as small headphone sockets so that you can listen to the sound of the water. View the live Siphonophora feeds on Pachube.com now >> | The Lake within Gunpower Park will act as an active environmental hub for the reactive device created by Davis and Haque | Working with biodiversity specialists, Haque and Davis will investigate enabling this population of devices to evolve organically, responding to site specific conditions including human interaction from visitors who come to view the work from the imposing steel bird hide in Gunpowder Park. This project ultimately tracks our common and natural spaces and explores relationships between human and non-human species. The floating device being created by Rob and Usman. | |
